What's Up with the Boots in Summer?!

I know Italians pride themselves on being at the "forefront" of fashion, but have to say it goes both ways - good and bad (and sometimes just down right ugly). This summer the "rage" seems to be boots, flat ones in suede and leather with a hint of Pocahontas to them. Ragazze, it's 90 degrees out with 90% humidity! It's August, not November. I can hardly stand to put on my Nikes to work out and cannot wait to peel them off afterward.

Flip flops, sandals, open toe shoes, even flats...anything but boots.

Sometimes fashion is just plain stupid as well...

I've noticed them in airports around the US this summer as well as in Houston (of all places, who would want to wear fleece-lined boots in a Houston summer!). Fashion... there is no reasoning with it.

Hi, It is just the same here in the UK. Today was quite a warm day, not too hot, but warm enough, and loads loads of girls wearing little mini skirts and these boots!!!! Whats that all about???

Forgot to say, I am going to Liguria in November :-) I am hopefully going to stay in Dolcedo or just outside it. See a lot of Italy on that coast line, and hopefully the last two days will be spent in Nice before we fly home:-)

I noticed that in Amalfi too - the trendiest girls wore short shorts, tank tops, huge sunglasses, a scarf wrapped around their neck and then boots.
I don't get it.

Isn't it so true!! The New York Times had an article about New Yorkers wearing scarves this summer -with shorts and sleeveless shirts.

Funny how trends start, and many just jump in...

I noticed this while walking around Naples, via Toledo and around the Duomo area of Florence last Summer. My wife was all over me telling me that they were wearing boots because they are in style. No clue as to how she got that idea as we live in the woods of Connecticut. This past June and July we were in Naples and I again couldn't believe the young women and their boots. This time my daughter was along with us and I got the fashion thing from both barrels!

There are fashionable boots and then there are: farm, work, snow, etc. boots and this is what most of the boots that I saw looked like. Fleece lined and rubber soled boots on hot Italian streets not only look out of place but must be killing the feet that they cover.

They sure didn't look like Nancy Sinatra did, in the day, in her "These Boots were made for Walking" boots!!!

Thanks for all the responses! Fashion and these stupid summer boots seem to a HOT topic (no pun intended!). What will they be wearing in November... open-toed moccasins?!

Hi Megan
I found your blog by accident and love it. We have a house in Canneto near Dolcedo but live in England. I dream about the time when we'll be there permanently. It's raining heavily in Exeter today and boots could just about be justified! Two weeks ago we were sitting on the terrace admiring the silver leaved piante and the blue sea - your observations bring it all back to me, thank you.
