Gratitude Friday: One Hot Aging Blond

We took Lucy to the vet this week for her annual check up.  She's now 11 and by now, most labs are showing their age.  We think Lucy looks fabulous, but it was really up to the vet to tell us if we were seeing her through rose colored glasses.  I am happy to say Lucy not only received a clean bill of health, but in the vets words "I've never seen a healthier, better looking blond in all my years as a vet".

I am so proud!  But more than anything, I am extremely grateful.  Lulu made the trek over here from California with me 6 years ago and she has flourished in the Mediterranean sun (and diet!). She is my shadow and joy and I hope for many more years to come.

Grazie a te, LucyLu!

Gratitude Friday: Doors to Wherever...

I love wrought iron doors like this one.  While it may be closed, you can see through it and have a glimpse of what's on the other side.  It's intriguing (well, especially one that leads up into a big villa like this!).  But my point is, even if a door is closed, it doesn't mean that opportunity is.  Peak inside, see what's on the other side.  And if the door doesn't open, find another that does.

I've lived by this motto all my life (thank you Dad) and I've found many doors unlocked.  I'm grateful that I can see the opportunity beyond a closed door.  It's why I am where I am today.

La Bottega da Rena

As many of you already know, I love Portovenere.  I could write about it just about every blog. I always have something to say or show about the place.  It's magic to me.  There is a cast-full of "characters" that live in the village.  One of my favorites is this charming man here:

"Vi presento" Rena and his wonderful ceramic studio up a small set of stairs from the main carruggio of the village (Via Capellini).  This man has some of the most charming and original "seaside" art pieces I have ever seen (and bought!).  Take a look:

And you may remember our "new addition":

Or the "bombinere" from the wedding back in June:

If you ever have the chance to visit Portovenere, do make a point of visiting Rena and see what goodies he might have for you.  Oh, and be sure to leave a little space in your suitcase!

Gratitude Friday

I'm grateful that I survived Thursday (it was a real bitch)
and that this gorgeous water will be awaiting my arrival on Sunday.
I deserve a day off!

10 Gratitudes...

Following in the footsteps of my dear friend Diana at Creative Structures, I am writing my own list of 10 gratitudes:

1) That I was given the opportunity to pursue a dream (Italy) and for it only to be better beyond my expectations.

2) That I was at Le Bocche in Portovenere on September 19, 2003 (when really I didn't want to go out) where and when I met my husband, the love of my life.

3) That I have a 70-pound lump of blond hair lying at my feet who shows unconditional love on a daily basis, the other love of my life.

4) That I am healthy, happy and wake up each day feeling positive and ready to "conquer" my world!

5) That I live in such a beautiful place that the view and chirping birds alone can change my bad mood to good.

6) That I have work I love and am passionate about, and that I created all on my own.

7) That despite being very far away, I have two adoring and loving parents who support me through highs, lows and my sometimes crazy antics.

8) That I have been able to make some really wonderful girlfriends here (from all over the world). Big shout out to Di, Kate, Ari and Dani!

9) That I am learning the balance between working hard but allowing myself time for me, Lui and Lulu.  I'm getting there!

10) That friends, family and clients always seem to bring my Peanut Butter from the states!

Now why don't you join me and post your own 10 gratitudes?  And then shoot me a comment to let me know and I'll check them out.  Always nice to start the weekend on a positive note!

Buona fine settimana!

La Maddalena

Tranquil, rustic charm, a touch of elegance and sublime views. How does that sound? This is what one will find at La Maddalena, a 14th century monastery turned high-end vacation villa in the hills above Monterosso. It's the newest addition to Bella Vita Italia.  And I am very excited about it.

Please enjoy a few photos from this amazing sanctuary:

The Entrance

The Chapel (consecrated for weddings)

Poolside

The Courtyard for Dining "Al Fresco"

The TV Room

The Living Room

The View

La Maddalena has 6 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms and can sleep up to 14 people. It is available for weekly rentals all year long.  Great for family reunions, weddings and other special occasions.

Did You Know???

I am "borrowing" this from Life in Italy
a wonderful web site on my adopted homeland.
It's worth a read, a laugh and the occasional, "oh really?!"

Enjoy & buon weekend!
