Sunday Morning Adventure

It was just too warm and pretty out to lounge about the house this morning. So Lui, Lulu & I headed up to La Rochetta for a hike.  It is literally a 10 minute drive from our home, but feels like another world.

Here you can be immersed in trees and completely shielded from the sun.  But then you come around a corner and THIS is what you find:


That is the backside of what we refer to as "The Mother", one dream property with 2 gorgeous homes. Magari, one day!  Just in case, you don't say "wow" from this photo, check THIS out.  Sometimes I am just amazed at how beautiful our corner of the world is...

The Garden

It's pretty big actually.  In fact, maybe too big for this novice green thumb.  But I am determined to make it look pretty this year.  

I planted some lavender, rosemary, roses and azaleas, all which should cover what was once a vast waste land of dirt (and Lucy's sanctuary from the hot pavement, sorry Lu!).  

This is just one spot, the smallest part of the yard.  (The rest will be a challenge!)  But I am hoping I'll have new photos of a robust growing garden in about a month. Stay tuned...

P.S. It hailed on my new plants this morning, I hope they survive!

Piano, piano...

In this instance, little by little. Our new "under sink" curtains arrived today (thanks Mom!). They are perfect for our funky seaside kitchen...

C'e Sole (finalmente)!

After what seems like weeks, it is a warm, sunny day. Even broke a sweat vacuming - yippee! Ahhh, the little things in life that make me happy...

The walls are gorgeous white! The house seems so much cleaner now that the nasty pink wallpaper is gone...

Next up, get rid of "grandma's furniture" and the ugly chandeliers that haunt the house (unfortunately minus the monster cabinet in the picture above) and start on the garden!


Hoping Casa Guerrera is in tip top shape come April...

A Word to Mother Nature...

With the official beginning of spring just 16 days away, couldn't you just give a sampler of what's to come?  It's January out there!  The wind is howling so loudly that Lucy is either stuck to my hip or trying to get in my lap of security (she weighs 70 pounds!).  It's dark and ugly and above all, friggin' cold!

This is my least favorite part of living here, have to say.  It's the California girl in me.  Where is that 75 degree, sunny weather?  When do I get to start wearing sandals?  I am sick of tucking my boots in my jeans!  Time for linen, bikinis, popsicles, sun streaks through my hair, (blood red orange) margaritas!

At least the walls are white now, the nasty wall paper is gone and I still have some Chai latte mix left from Trader Joe's to keep me warm when Lui's not here...

Let the Fun Begin!

I can hardly contain myself! Tomorrow the painters arrive and this room:

Will be painted white.   Then "bye bye" ugly, musty furniture.  Benvenuti new couch, cool light fixtures, flat screen TV, Sky (whoopie!), and possibly even my very cool rug I bought in Cairo 10 years ago.

After three years of living in the "best dump" in Liguria, I am finally nesting.  The amount of ideas and the month end bills are giving Lui a bit of a shock, but it's time.  It's really time.  More to come...
