I receive a healthy number of emails like you do, and I am always honest about the realities...it's a beautiful, friendly, historic place but life (and bureaucracy!) ain't easy! And I can say that Marche is not very inexpensive anymore, unfortunately. :(Valeriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01055759718776417654noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17235536.post-24372128527240599782009-02-11T09:08:00.000+01:002009-02-11T09:08:00.000+01:00I live in rural Central Italy which tends to attra...I live in rural Central Italy which tends to attract people with young children from the UK and northern European countries. Moving here with children poses a extra set of challenges and I think it is useful to remember that it takes time every day to get to know the culture, learn the language and make friends over a period of several years. It is the most tiring thing that I have ever done, yet the most rewarding.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17235536.post-65907694000664739082009-02-09T13:27:00.000+01:002009-02-09T13:27:00.000+01:00These are all great tips. Rent an apartment, instead of staying in a hotel. If you can take time off from work/ school stay for month or more. There's a big difference between being on vacation here and living here.

Start studying the language before the move. It will make the transition a lot easier.nyc/caribbean ragazzahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09370358466131415888noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17235536.post-75985958083290764132009-02-05T13:21:00.000+01:002009-02-05T13:21:00.000+01:00Thank you so much for your visit and for the nice ...Thank you so much for your visit and for the nice comment! And this year, EU members do not have to apply for visas within the EU. In other words, a German can live in Italy without having a permesso di soggiorno. For an American married to an EU citizen, we get a five year permesso which gets renewed without problem.Diana Strinati Baurhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07152721181032796074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17235536.post-26230951452959392452009-02-03T17:11:00.000+01:002009-02-03T17:11:00.000+01:00Nice post! I don't see us living there permanently, but life has taught me to never say never. I interact with a lot of Europeans at work, and it can be very different than interaction with Americans. Business-wise they can be so blunt and direct, it's sometimes difficult to interpret, but then when it's social time, they are so amazingly warm and friendly. I hope you will continue to share your experiences and observations!
